# Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) > BSEE is the U.S. Department of the Interior bureau that regulates offshore oil, gas > and mineral operations on the Outer Continental Shelf. This file is an > independent third-party description, not a BSEE document. ## What is machine-readable here, and what is not BSEE publishes **no OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, GraphQL, gRPC, SOAP/WSDL or MCP contract** as of 2026-09-05. Every probe is recorded in this repository. The public surface is: 1. **HTML "Online Query" applications** on www.data.bsee.gov — ASP.NET forms that return results as HTML with CSV / XLS / PDF export buttons. They are not callable as an API: the host returns HTTP 200 with a "Data Center 404 Error" HTML shell for any unknown path, so path probing yields false positives. 2. **Bulk raw-data downloads** — zipped delimited ASCII files, one per subject area, refreshed on a published cadence (most daily, some weekly / bi-monthly / monthly). These are the closest thing BSEE offers to a programmatic feed. 3. **Gated permitting** — eWell / TIMS at timsweb.bsee.gov requires a BSEE-issued operator account; unauthenticated requests return the login page. Note on the word "API": in BSEE's own vocabulary, **API means the American Petroleum Institute well number** (the 10-, 12- or 14-digit well identifier), not an application programming interface.
