# Chatmeter

> Chatmeter is an AI-powered multi-location intelligence platform for reputation management, local
> listings, review response, social monitoring, surveys, and competitive benchmarking. It exposes a
> REST API — `https://live.chatmeter.com/v5` — for programmatic access to locations, listings, reviews,
> users, groups, and review-generation campaigns. Chatmeter joined Alchemer in September 2025.

## Status of the machine-readable surface

Chatmeter publishes **no OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, GraphQL SDL, Postman collection, or JSON Schema**, and no
MCP server or A2A agent card. Both of its API documentation hosts are credential-gated:
`support.chatmeter.com` redirects to a Salesforce community login and `apidocs.chatmeter.com` answers
HTTP Basic. The API itself is live and callable, but a token requires an existing paid tenant — there is
no self-serve signup. Everything below was established by live probe on 2026-08-13, not read from a
contract.

## API

- [Chatmeter API base](https://live.chatmeter.com/v5): REST/JSON. Version carried in the path (`/v5`).
- [Token endpoint](https://live.chatmeter.com/v5/login): `POST` with `{"username": ..., "password": ...}`;
  the returned token goes in the `Authorization` header. No OAuth, no OIDC, no API-key page, no scopes.
- Confirmed-mounted routes (401/400 to an anonymous caller): `/v5/locations`,
  `/v5/locations/externalId/{externalId}`, `/v5/reviews`, `/v5/reviews/{id}/responses`, `/v5/listings`,
  `/v5/accounts`, `/v5/groups`, `/v5/groups/{id}/locations`, `/v5/users`, `/v5/user/{id}`,
  `/v5/users/{id}/groups`, `/v5/users/{id}/locations`, `/v5/reviewBuilder/campaign`,
  `/v5/reviewBuilder/form/get/{id}`, `/v5/reviewBuilder/emailTemplate/{id}`, `/v5/reports`,
  `/v5/dashboard/reviewReport`, `/v5/singlesignon/generateLoginToken`.
- Errors use a vendor envelope `{"error": {"code": ..., "message": ...}}` — not RFC 9457. `error.message`
  is polymorphic: a string on some failures, a JSON-path-keyed object on body validation failures.
- Every response carries a `trace-id` header. There are no rate-limit headers of any kind.
- Unmounted paths under `/v5` return **302** to the static application bucket, not 404. Treat a 302 as
  "route does not exist".

## Client libraries

- No first-party SDK exists in any language, on any registry.
- [chatmeter (RubyGems)](https://rubygems.org/gems/chatmeter) — third-party, by the agency G5. v1.3.0,
  published 2019-05-01, last commit 2021-08-12. Its README points at `newapi.chatmeter.com`, which no
  longer resolves.

## Known gaps for agents

- No contract, so no tool input schemas can be generated without an authenticated tenant.
- 401 responses are empty — no body, no error code, no `WWW-Authenticate` — so an agent cannot tell an
  expired token from an unauthorized one.
- No idempotency key on any write, and `POST /v5/reviews/{id}/responses` publishes text publicly under
  the brand's name on third-party platforms. Keep a human in the loop on that operation.
- No webhooks or event surface; changes must be polled.
- No status page, no changelog, no deprecation policy. The previous API host `newapi.chatmeter.com` was
  retired to NXDOMAIN with no public notice.
