# Consolidated Edison (Con Edison) > Con Edison is a Fortune 500 investor-owned utility delivering electric, natural gas and steam service to New York City and Westchester County. It runs no general-purpose developer portal. Its one programmatic surface is Green Button Connect My Data ("Share My Data") — a NAESB ESPI REQ.21 / Green Button V3.3 API that lets a registered third party retrieve a customer's interval energy usage, billing and account data after that customer grants consent. Access requires signing a Data Security Agreement and completing a 30-60 day technical onboarding with Con Edison; there is no self-service signup and no public sandbox. This file was generated by API Evangelist from Con Edison's own published documents. Con Edison does not publish an llms.txt. ## APIs - [Green Button Connect My Data](https://www.coned.com/en/accounts-billing/share-energy-usage-data/become-a-third-party): OAuth 2.0 + ESPI Atom/XML API. Production base https://api.coned.com/gbc/espi/1_1, test base https://apit.coned.com/gbc/espi/1_1. 37 operations across UsagePoint, MeterReading, IntervalBlock, ReadingType, UsageSummary, RetailCustomer, Batch, RealTime and Authorization. - [Green Button Download My Data](https://www.coned.com/en/save-money/make-better-energychoices-with-green-button): customer-initiated CSV / ESPI XML export of up to a year of smart-meter interval data from My Account. No API integration required. ## Specs - [Swagger 2.0 definition (verbatim, as published by Con Edison)](openapi/_original/consolidated-edison-green-button-connect-openapi.json) - [Working OpenAPI copy with the real production host](openapi/consolidated-edison-green-button-connect-openapi.yml) - [OpenAPI Overlay of API Evangelist enhancements](overlays/consolidated-edison-green-button-connect-overlay.yaml) - [Con Edison Swagger source URL](https://edge-e-dcx-downloads-prod-gjf6ega8bmh8crfh.a01.azurefd.net/gbc-api-defintions/swagger-cert.json): the definition Con Edison links from its onboarding document. - [Postman collection "GBC Certification Third party V3.3"](https://edge-e-dcx-downloads-prod-gjf6ega8bmh8crfh.a01.azurefd.net/gbc-api-defintions/postman-collection.json) ## Docs - [Register to Receive Customer Data via Green Button Connect My Data](https://www.coned.com/en/accounts-billing/share-energy-usage-data/become-a-third-party) - [Third-Party Technical Onboarding Document v4.4 (PDF)](https://edge-e-dcxprod-web-bechbkdqagefb9ge.a03.azurefd.net/-/media/files/coned/documents/accountandbilling/share-my-data/onboarding-doc.pdf): the real technical reference — endpoints, OAuth flows, ESPI scope syntax, rate limits, data latency, batch semantics. - [Share My Data FAQ for Third Party Vendors (PDF)](https://edge-e-dcxprod-web-bechbkdqagefb9ge.a03.azurefd.net/-/media/files/coned/documents/accountandbilling/share-my-data/faq.pdf) - [Third-Party Company Registration Form](https://www.coned.com/en/accounts-billing/share-energy-usage-data/become-a-third-party/registration-form) - [How to Access Customer Data (business partners)](https://www.coned.com/en/business-partners/access-customer-data) - [Download and Share Your Data (customer view)](https://www.coned.com/en/accounts-billing/share-energy-usage-data/share-my-data) - [Building Energy Usage History and Share Your Data (commercial and industrial)](https://www.coned.com/en/accounts-billing/commerical-industrial-request-and-share-data) ## Artifacts - [Authentication profile](authentication/consolidated-edison-authentication.yml): OAuth 2.0 authorization code, refresh token and client credentials grants; 60-minute access tokens; refresh token expires after one year unused. - [ESPI scopes](scopes/consolidated-edison-scopes.yml): the scope parameter is a structured ESPI expression (FB=..;IntervalDuration=..;BlockDuration=..;HistoryLength=..;BR=..), not a list of scope strings. 17 functional blocks published. - [API conventions](conventions/consolidated-edison-conventions.yml): pagination, UTC/DST timestamp rules, versioning, batch/callback semantics, value scaling. - [Error catalog](errors/consolidated-edison-problem-types.yml): 400 and 401 declared on every operation; no RFC 9457 problem+json. - [Lifecycle](lifecycle/consolidated-edison-lifecycle.yml): no deprecation policy, no Sunset header, no API status page. - [Rate limits](rate-limits/consolidated-edison-rate-limits.yml): 50 token calls per minute on the token endpoint; no limit published on the resource endpoints; no rate-limit response headers. - [Webhook / callback surface](asyncapi/consolidated-edison-webhooks.yml): batch completion notifications to the third party's registered notification URI. - [Data model](data-model/consolidated-edison-data-model.yml): Account to UsagePoint to MeterReading to IntervalBlock, plus ReadingType scaling. - [Sandbox](sandbox/consolidated-edison-sandbox.yml): a real test environment exists at apit.coned.com but is not self-service. - [Conformance](conformance/consolidated-edison-conformance.yml): NAESB ESPI REQ.21, Green Button Connect My Data V3.3, RFC 6749, RFC 6750, RFC 4287. - [Well-known probe](well-known/consolidated-edison-well-known.yml): no /.well-known/ document served on any host, probed 2026-09-05. - [Packages](packages/consolidated-edison-packages.yml): no first-party SDK in any registry; github.com/Con-Edison has zero public repositories. - [Agent skills](skills/_index.yml) - [Candidate MCP tool surface](mcp/consolidated-edison-mcp.yml): derived, not published — Con Edison ships no MCP server. ## Getting access 1. Register your company on the [Third-Party Company Registration Form](https://www.coned.com/en/accounts-billing/share-energy-usage-data/become-a-third-party/registration-form). 2. Complete and sign the Data Security Agreement. No response within 90 days withdraws the submission. 3. Submit the technical onboarding registration form; Con Edison emails back client_id, client_secret and a Registration Access Token. 4. Build the customer authorization workflow and pass API testing in the test environment with Con Edison's team. Testing must complete within 90 days of acceptance. 5. Re-register with production details. Expect 30 to 60 days end to end. Contact: dlsharemydatatech@coned.com ## Limits worth knowing before you build - Two years of historical usage and billing data; real-time data is electricity only, last 24 hours, with 45 minutes of latency and is explicitly not billing quality. - All query timestamps must be UTC, computed with the correct EST/EDT offset. Interval counts per day change across DST boundaries (288 normal, 276 spring forward, 300 fall back). - Every reading value must be scaled by its ReadingType powerOfTenMultiplier; Con Edison currently uses 3 for electric and 0 for gas. - An authorization is revoked automatically if unused for 365 days. - Batch responses must be collected within 2 days of notification.
