# Epic Bio (Epicrispr Biotechnologies, Inc.) > Clinical-stage genetic medicines company in South San Francisco, California, founded > in 2018 by Stanford CRISPR pioneer Stanley Qi, Ph.D. Epic Bio develops epigenetic > editing therapies that modulate gene expression without cutting DNA, using its > proprietary Gene Expression Modulation System (GEMS) platform. Lead program EPI-321 > is in first-in-human clinical study for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD). ## Important disambiguation Epic Bio is **not** Epic Systems (the healthcare EHR vendor behind `open.epic.com` and its FHIR APIs), and it is **not** the "Epic" application at `epic.bio`, which belongs to Guerbet. Do not attribute any of those APIs to this company. ## API surface **There is none.** Epic Bio is a therapeutics developer, not a software vendor. As of 2026-08-12 it publishes no public API, no SDK, no webhooks, no developer portal, no machine-readable specification, and no GitHub organization. See `openapi/README.md` in this repository for the full contract-discovery probe table (every probe returned 404 or NXDOMAIN). ## Technology platform (scientific, not developer-facing) - Gene Expression Modulation System (GEMS): a DNA-binding protein + tailored guide RNA + modulator protein, delivered without double-strand DNA breaks. - DNA-binding proteins: CasMINI (exclusively licensed; among the smallest dCas proteins shown to work in human cells) and proprietary variants including CasONYX. - Modulators: activators, repressors, histone modifiers, DNA methylators and chromatin remodelers. - Guide RNAs: identified by a functional screening platform with proprietary computational design methods. Internal R&D tooling — not exposed publicly. ## Pipeline - EPI-321 — facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) — first-in-human clinical study; enrollment and dose escalation completed. - Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (A1AD) — preclinical. - Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) — preclinical. ## Public pages - [Website](https://epicrispr.com/): corporate home. - [Platform](https://epicrispr.com/platform/): the GEMS platform. - [Science](https://epicrispr.com/science/): epigenetic editing approach. - [Pipeline](https://epicrispr.com/pipeline/): programs and stages. - [News](https://epicrispr.com/news/): press releases ([RSS](https://epicrispr.com/feed/)). - [Team](https://epicrispr.com/team/): leadership and board. - [For patients and caregivers](https://epicrispr.com/for-patients-and-caregivers/). - [Expanded access policy](https://epicrispr.com/expanded-access-policy/). - [Careers](https://epicrispr.com/careers/). - [Contact](https://epicrispr.com/contact/). - [Privacy policy](https://epicrispr.com/privacy-policy/). ## Repository artifacts - `openapi/README.md`: contract-discovery probe record (no spec exists). - `well-known/epic-bio-well-known.yml`: `/.well-known/*` probe record (all 404). - `security/epic-bio-domain-security.yml`: TLS/HSTS/DNSSEC/CAA/SPF/DMARC probe.
