# National Bank of Canada

> National Bank of Canada (Banque Nationale du Canada, TSX: NA) is a Schedule I chartered bank headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, founded in 1859 — the sixth-largest of Canada's Big Six banks and the leading bank in Quebec. On open finance it is a first-mover (the first major Canadian bank to launch a secure, consent-based data-sharing API for retail customers) but it operates NO public self-serve first-party developer portal. Programmatic access to customer financial data is aggregator-mediated — principally via Flinks (the Montreal aggregator in which National Bank holds an ~80% stake) through its Open Banking Environment (OBE), and also via Plaid. National Bank and Flinks are founding participants of the FDX Canada working group. Canada's Consumer-Driven Banking framework (Budget 2024 / FCAC oversight) is legislated but not yet operational, so access today is voluntary and aggregator-mediated with no first-party API surface.

## Open-Finance Posture

- No first-party public developer portal: developer.nbc.ca / api.nbc.ca do not resolve; there is no public API console or downloadable OpenAPI/Swagger.
- Consumer financial-data sharing is consent-based and delivered through aggregators (Flinks OBE, Plaid); fintechs onboard through the aggregator's accreditation process, not a National Bank developer console.
- FDX participant: data-sharing aligns to the FDX technical standard.
- Consumer-Driven Banking (CDB) framework is not yet operational — no framework endpoint exists.
