# OPOWER (Oracle Utilities Opower)

> Opower is a customer engagement and energy efficiency cloud platform for utilities, delivered as Oracle Utilities Opower since Oracle's 2016 acquisition. It turns hundreds of billions of smart-meter reads into home energy reports, bill forecasting/comparison, usage disaggregation, neighbor comparisons, tips, high-bill alerts, and multi-channel notifications. Developers integrate via a RESTful Digital Self Service - Energy Management API and an Integration Hub GraphQL API, both OAuth 2.0 (client-credentials) secured.

## Auth

- OAuth 2.0 client-credentials (two-legged). Token endpoint: https://cxapi.opower.com/apis/authorization-v1/oauth2/token
- POST grant_type=client_credentials with HTTP Basic client_id:client_secret; use returned access_token as `Authorization: Bearer {token}`.
- Utilities must front the APIs with a server-side API gateway; never expose OAuth credentials to browsers or mobile apps.
