# Outpost

> Outpost is a Merchant of Record and Tax of Record platform for cross-border commerce. Retailers keep their own checkout and payment service providers (Stripe, Adyen) while Outpost takes on the legal and tax liability — local payments, VAT/GST/sales-tax registration, calculation and filing, proforma invoicing for B2B bank transfers, and hosted merchant onboarding. Founded by ex-Revolut operator Will Mahon-Heap; backed by Ribbit Capital and Better Tomorrow Ventures.

Integration is server-to-server: your frontend never calls Outpost directly. Tax of Record and Merchant of Record APIs use OAuth2 client-credentials (Bearer JWT via https://access.outpostanywhere.com/oauth2/token); the Hosted Onboarding (Partner) API uses a JWT Bearer token from the Partner Portal. Write operations are idempotent via client-supplied reference keys.
