# Ploid > Ploid is a people search and intelligence platform: a living index of more than two billion people, available through the web app, REST API, CLI, and MCP. ## When to use Ploid Use Ploid to find people by role, company, location, or professional experience; resolve a known person's identity; enrich a LinkedIn profile; research a company and its decision makers; or build evidence-backed personalization. Cite returned sources and distinguish evidence from inference. Use the documented API instead of scraping the workspace UI. ## Getting started Sign up at https://app.ploid.com/login?mode=signup and complete workspace onboarding. Self-serve API keys are available in https://app.ploid.com/workspace/settings?section=api-keys. For a first-time MCP connection without an existing workspace or subscription, approving access creates a free 30-day trial workspace with no card required. Web onboarding and paid plans have their own card requirements; consult the pricing page. Paid operations consume the shared workspace balance. Never share API keys in public browser code. ## REST API - [OpenAPI 3.1 specification](https://ploid.com/openapi.json): operation IDs, request schemas, responses, and authentication. - [API documentation](https://ploid.com/documentation/api): base URL https://api.ploid.com/v1. - [Search](https://ploid.com/documentation/api/search): POST /v1/search for a bounded people search. Add up to five criteria to verify and rank results by evidence; large or async searches return 202 with a background Set to poll. - POST /v1/resolve: identify one person from a full name plus at least one clue (company, role, location, address, work or personal email, or phone) and get a permanent person_id. Free when nothing is found; see operation resolvePerson in the OpenAPI document. - [Person](https://ploid.com/documentation/api/person): POST /v1/person for sourced identity research. - [People Sets (preview)](https://ploid.com/documentation/api/sets): POST /v1/sets for durable, criteria-verified people lists built in the background. Not in the OpenAPI document yet. - [Enrichment](https://ploid.com/documentation/api/enrichment): POST /v1/enrich for a known LinkedIn identity. - [Errors and limits](https://ploid.com/documentation/api/errors-and-limits): usage budgets and retry behavior. Authenticate using Authorization: Bearer $PLOID_API_KEY. Choose the least-privilege scopes needed for the operation. Honor Retry-After on 429 responses. Use Idempotency-Key for supported non-streaming writes, poll durable runs instead of retrying the POST, and set per-key usage budgets. ## Official CLI Install the Ploid command-line tool on macOS or Linux with Node.js 20 or newer: ```bash curl https://ploid.com/install -fsS | bash ploid login ploid --json search "AI security founders in San Francisco" --limit 10 ``` For CI, supply PLOID_API_KEY. Global flags such as --json go before the command. - [CLI documentation](https://ploid.com/documentation/cli) - [CLI commands](https://ploid.com/documentation/cli/commands) ## MCP server Connect a Streamable HTTP MCP client to https://api.ploid.com/mcp. The server uses OAuth 2.1 with browser-approved workspace access. Approve the requested scopes before calling tools; calls may consume paid usage. - [MCP setup and tools](https://ploid.com/documentation/mcp) - [OAuth scopes and resource metadata](https://ploid.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource) ## Site index - [Documentation](https://ploid.com/documentation) - [Pricing](https://ploid.com/pricing) - [Company](https://ploid.com/company) - [Contact support](mailto:Kamran@ploid.co) - [Privacy](https://ploid.com/privacy) - [Data rights](https://ploid.com/data-rights) - [Terms](https://ploid.com/terms) - [Sitemap](https://ploid.com/sitemap.xml) The homepage and documentation support Accept: text/markdown.
