I will be speaking at [Tyk’s upcoming Leap 2.0 API Governance virtual conference this Thursday](https://discover.tyk.io/event/leap-api-governance-conference/). API governance is top of mind for most enterprise organizations and quickly becoming a priority for those who are further along in their API journey. I will be giving a talk on the fundamentals of API governance, focusing on what will have the greatest impact on the API sprawl that has emerged over the last 25 years. RESTful or more simply HTTP APIs have been in motion for a quarter century now, and these are the areas where enterprise should be investing in when it comes to a centralized as well as federated API governance investment.

- **Schema** — Stabilizing all stages of the API lifecycle with consistent usage and awareness of JSON Schema.
- **APIs** - Factoring in different perspectives, approaches, access, and types of APIs to deliver the right experience.
- **Governance** - Learning about API governance rules, and how they are applied across schema, APIs, and operations.
- **Operations** - Establishing a plan for aligning producing and engineering goals across enterprise API operations.
- **Changes** - Having a plan for how change is managed and communicated throughout enterprise API operations.
- **Evangelism** - Baking in evangelism and storytelling into all aspects of API governance to drive collaboration.

Most API governance conversations focus on the intersection of APIs and governance, completely bypassing the role of schema. Those who have been doing API governance will become more familiar with our stories around the need to expand governance operationally and just how challenging API governance can be when you don’t have a plan to manage change and educate teams in motion.
