Shelter connects to supported financial accounts through Plaid with read-only access. It combines balances, income timing, recurring bills, debt payments, subscriptions, and observed spending to publish a 30-day cash-flow forecast. Guardian uses that forecast to explain what is already spoken for, when the balance is likely to be lowest, and one action the user can consider.

Shelter cannot move, hold, withdraw, or spend money. It does not make payments, cancel subscriptions, or negotiate bills.
