# Silk Labs

> Silk Labs was an on-device artificial intelligence company founded in 2015 by former Mozilla CTO Andreas Gal with Chris Jones and Michael Vines (Firefox OS alumni). Its open-source Silk platform let developers build IoT applications in JavaScript on an Android + Node.js runtime; the company later built the "Sense" AI home camera. Silk Labs was acquired by Apple in November 2018 and no longer operates independently — silklabs.com is parked on Apple nameservers. The open-source Silk code, GitHub org, and npm packages remain publicly available.
