# Tari

> Tari is an open-source, proof-of-work blockchain protocol focused on privacy (default confidential transactions) and accessibility. The Tari Universe app lets everyday users mine XTM tokens, and the protocol exposes self-hosted Base Node and Wallet gRPC interfaces for developers, exchanges, and dApp builders. A Layer-2 (Ootle) adds smart-contract templates.
