# USACallerLookup

> Free reverse phone lookup for US numbers. Every number page combines NANPA carrier and
> rate-centre data with Federal Trade Commission Do Not Call complaint records and reports left
> by visitors, so a caller can be identified by what is actually on record rather than by guesswork.

US phone numbering is public information and FTC complaint data is US public domain. This site
structures both so a specific question about a specific number has a specific answer.

## Data sources

- **NANPA / North American Numbering Plan**: 197,876 NPA-NXX prefixes across 364 area codes,
  giving carrier, line type, rate centre, city and state for any US number.
- **FTC Do Not Call complaint data**: published every weekday by the Federal Trade Commission and
  released into the US public domain. Ingested daily. Provides complaint counts, the states
  complainants filed from, reported subject categories and robocall flags.
- **Visitor reports**: free-text reports submitted on the site, moderated before display.

## How to read what is here

- Complaint counts describe **records filed against a number**, not proven wrongdoing.
- Caller ID is trivially forged. A number appearing in complaints may belong to an uninvolved
  person whose number was spoofed by someone else. Language on the site reflects this and so
  should any summary of it.
- Figures are stated with the date range they cover, because complaint volumes move quickly.
- Numbers with no prefix data, no complaints and no visitor reports are intentionally excluded
  from the index rather than published as empty pages.

A free, read-only JSON API with no key and no sign-up: carrier, location and FTC complaint
history per US number, area code summaries and dataset stats. 60 requests per minute per IP.

## Crawler policy

Crawlers that fetch pages in order to cite them are welcome, including OAI-SearchBot,
ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, Claude-User, Claude-SearchBot, Applebot and Googlebot. Crawlers that
collect content for model training are declined at the server, as are SEO intelligence and bulk
scraping tools. This distinction is deliberate: citation is welcome, silent bulk collection is not.
