The Department of National Defence (DND) has been working hard to ensure it can continue to perform its tasks and conduct its missions into the Year 2000. DND, along with other government departments, has taken prudent steps to ensure its mission critical systems are ready for the Year 2000. The Minister of National Defence, through the National Contingency Planning Group (NCPG), is also coordinating the government’s overall national contingency planning efforts related to the Year 2000 problem. In addition, The Canadian Forces (CF) is prepared to conduct Operation ABACUS. Abacus is the name of DND’s contingency plan designed to enable the CF to respond to any requests for assistance to mitigate potential problems caused by the Y2K Bug, while continuing to fill its national and international commitments. |
