American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD)*

binational command involving the United States and Canada. Established in 1958, NORAD
provides warning of missile and air attack against both of its member nations, safeguards
the air sovereignty of North America, and provides air defense forces for defense against
an air attack.
North Atlantic Treaty
Organization*
The North Atlantic Treaty was signed in Washington on 4
April 1949, creating an alliance of 12 independent nations committed to each other's
defence. Four more European nations later acceded to the Treaty between 1952 and 1982. The
North Atlantic Treaty has continued to guarantee the security of its member countries ever
since.

Highlanders*
The Calgary Highlanders are a Land Reserve Infantry Regiment in
the Canadian Armed Forces. Members of the Regiment are part-time, citizen soldiers who
train at Mewata Armoury in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
