The Nevada Arts Council (NAC) established as a state agency in 1967, is located in Carson City and is a division of the Department of Museums, Library and Arts. NAC serves as the primary agency in Nevada through which state and national funds are used to stimulate and encourage the arts in the state.

A nine-member council, serving rotating terms of four years, determines NAC policy and makes final decisions on grant applications. Council members are appointed by the Governor of Nevada and are selected for their knowledge of and experience in the arts, and to insure geographic and ethnic representation of all areas of the state.

The Nevada Arts Council conducts programs, directed by NAC staff, which provide outreach services (including financial assistance) to schools, local arts councils and organizations, community centers, performing groups and individual artists. Overall NAC serves as a catalyst for arts programming throughout the state, assisting arts organizations, groups and individuals in bringing the arts to the people of Nevada.

The mission of the Nevada Arts Council is "to enrich the cultural life of the state throughout leadership that preserves, supports, strengthens and makes accessible excellence in the arts to all Nevadans."
