The Nevada State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is a state agency created by the National Historic Preservation Act. Congress enacted this law to assist citizens and government agencies in preserving important historic properties. The National Park Service (NPS) administers, reviews, and provides the majority of funding for the Nevada SHPO programs. The SHPO also administers the Commission for Cultural Affairs grants, NPS grants, the historical marker program, and the Comstock Historic District Commission.
