Objective:
The student will use the microscope to examine bacteria produced at the Wahoo Creek Waste Water treatment plant in Newnan.
Activities:
The teacher will spark a review discussion of the steps involved in the treating of water in Newnan, Georgia. They will review the particular step where bacteria is produced intentionally to destroy other microorganisms in a certain tank at the plant.The teacher will show the samples taken from the plant. Students will examine by groups the samples of treated waste water from a tank at Wahoo Creek treatment plant. They will list their observations on their lab sheet.Students will then individually prepare a slide of a sample of waste water. They will then examine the sample under the microscope. Each student will draw the bacteria they have seen on to their lab sheet. Also they will label the example(s), if possible.
After the lab a class discussion will be held to share individual observations made with the microscope.Evaluation:
Students will be evaluated by their oral responses in the discussion and by their individual lab sheets handed in.
