Tell the House leadership not to surrender fight
against illegal immigration
Don't repeal Section 110
Pro-reform members of House have been fighting Senate attempts to repeal critical provisions of the 1996 immigration reform law that are vital to American security interests. These provisions, known as Section 110, will create an automated entry-exit system to stop drug traffickers, foreign terrorists, and illegal aliens from entering the United States and causing harm. However, some Senators are pressuring the House to repeal or weaken Section 110 as part of end-of the-year budget negotiations.
Contact the House leadership and ask them to stand strong against Senate pressure to repeal or weaken Section 110
Repealing Section 110 would be a serious mistake because:
- The entry exit system will reduce threats to national security. Drug smugglers and terrorists exploit lax immigration laws to infiltrate the U.S. The entry-exit system will help law enforcement identify these threats and design remedial procedures to improve national security. Repealing Section 110 would send a signal to the rest of the world that the U.S. is unwilling to control illegal immigration.
- Congress already ensured the system will not disrupt legitimate border traffic. Last year, Congress amended Section 110 to ensure that the system "not significantly disrupt trade, tourism, or other legitimate cross-border traffic." A properly administered system will decrease delays and enhance legitimate border traffic while stopping illegal aliens, terrorists, and drug traffickers.
- Back room deals to repeal Section 110 shortchange the American people and circumvent the democratic process. Congress passed Section 110 under a glaring light. Now, some Senators want to make back-room deals to repeal Section 110 and reward special interest lobbyists. The American people deserve an open debate and vote on a decision to make it easier to import drugs and illegal aliens.
