Three members of the U.S. Congress from New York showed up at a rally on November 30 to support demands by illegal aliens for an amnesty so they can get legal residence. The three were Joseph Crowley (D-Queens), Jerrold Nadler and Carolyn Maloney (both D-Manhattan, Brooklyn). The rally was sponsored by a labor union group that has been working to unionize illegal aliens in the demolition and asbestos-removal industries where many illegal alliens work. The rally was punctuated with chants in Spanish of "Amnestia Ahora" (Amnesty Now!). According to an official in the labor union, "Most of our members are not legally residing here." The backdrop for the rally was the suffocation of an illegal alien worker in a building collapse. Rather than call for stricter enforcement of safety regulations, the congressional representatives endorsed an amnesty for illegal aliens as the solution to the safety problem.
