Government Relations/Grassroots Associate

The Federation for American Immigration Reform, the nation's leading non-profit, nonpartisan public interest organization dedicated to stopping illegal immigration and reducing legal immigration to sensible levels, is seeking an entry-level government relations/grassroots associate. Responsibilities include event planning, legislative research and writing, and field communications. The successful candidate will be highly organized, have a bachelor's degree, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Legislative, campaign or meeting planning experience a plus. This is a wonderful opportunity for professional development and growth for a recent graduate. GOVERNMENT RELATIONS INTERNSHIP
Contact: Jennifer Denson.

Closed -- Intern needed to assist with several projects. Responsibilities include: tracking and analyzing legislation, conducting research, distributing information to Hill staffers, helping with all stages of Capitol Hill mailings, data entry, legislative inquiries, special projects, and general office duties. The intern will also attend, take notes, and report on Hill committee hearings.

Requirements: Ability to take initiative, exceptional written and oral communication skills, knowledge of how Congress works, and MS Word experience. All applicants must be familiar and comfortable with our goals. Hourly pay is $7.25, flexible full-time hours. Position generally available year-round.


MEDIA RELATIONS INTERNSHIP

Closed -- Highly organized intern needed to assist a national, public interest membership association. Responsibilities include updating media lists, scheduling radio shows, faxing background materials to television, radio, and print press, filing, and some writing for a monthly newsletter. Our media intern will have the opportunity to attend press conferences, Hill briefings, and issue seminars. This position is an excellent opportunity for a public relations newcomer or a student seeking experience in communications, press relations and the operations of a nonprofit lobbying group.

Requirements: MS Word and other MS applications some broadcast faxing experience, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience with internet research a plus, as is knowledge of HTML. All applicants must be familiar and comfortable with our goals. Usually a 6-month position but can be flexible. Hourly pay is $7.25, with flexible full-time hours.

FUNDRAISING/DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP Contact: Margie Wilkinson

Open -- Intern needed in membership/fundraising department to assist with several projects. These include coordinating and producing 6-month appreciation gift mailings, assisting with Roundtable meeting planning, drafting articles for monthly newsletter and assisting with major donor mailings. Other project work as needed. Routine tasks: responding to comment mail, foundation research, and membership packet request fulfillment. All applicants must be familiar and comfortable with our goals.

Requirements: MS Word, some research and writing skills. Hourly pay is $7.25, flexible full-time hours.


LAW INTERNSHIP
Contact: Legal Intern Coordinator

Open for Summer 2000 -- Summer position available for 2 law students entering their third year. Duties will include heavy research (primarily in immigration law, constitutional law and administrative law), writing briefs, and editing and cite checking law review articles.

Requirements: The applicant will have strong oral and written communication skills, solid research abilities, knowledge of Microsoft Office 97 and a 2.9 or better GPA. Hours and pay are flexible, (minimum $9.50/hr.,) depending on experience. A stipend may also be available.
