Hurricane Georges
September 23, 1998
MAP International is delivering 12,780 pounds of medical relief aid to the victims of
Hurricane Georges in Haiti.
Hurricane Georges has tracked across the Caribbean,
bringing high winds, rain and floods to several islands and causing extensive damage to
homes, hospitals and other buildings. Haiti, which shares the island of Hispanola with the
Dominican Republic, is one of the poorest countries in the world.
The medicines and supplies MAP is shipping to Haiti are valued at $533,000. The relief aid
will be flown to Haiti's capital, Port-Au-Prince. MAP is partnering with the organization
Food for the Poor, which has personnel on the ground in Haiti and will distribute the
medicines and supplies to hospitals and clinics throughout the country.
MAP responds to disasters around the world to ensure that appropriate medicines and
supplies reach those most in need.
Funds are still needed to support this Haiti relief effort and MAP's other relief work
around the world.
