IN TRIBUTE TO THE HUMANITARIAN RELIEF COMMUNITY:

A DECLARATION OF GRATITUDE

Whereas humanitarian disasters have occurred over the past two years with unprecedented frequency and magnitude,

Whereas these crises have taken place on every continent, and have included both manmade and natural disasters,

Whereas many of these humanitarian crises continue today, affecting millions of people in some of the world’s poorest countries,

Whereas humanitarian relief professionals continue to save lives and relieve suffering around the globe,

Whereas humanitarian workers have lost their lives in service, from Albania and Chechnya, to Burundi and Somalia, and

Whereas humanitarian workers serve at great personal risk, but continue to serve so that others will be less vulnerable,

We, the undersigned, join Ambassador J. Brady Anderson, the Administration of the U.S. Agency for International Development and the President’s Special Coordinator for International Disaster Assistance, in paying tribute to the humanitarian community. We express our sincere gratitude and admiration for your courage, your commitment, and your professionalism.
