Torah Academy's Humanities class recently studied the Impressionist and Neoimpressionist (Pointillist) artists of Nineteenth century France. Through study of their works and techniques, students gained valuable insight into these important painters. The class traveled to Chicago to view the Renoir exhibit as well as various other art works at the Art Institute. In order to experience the techniques of Pointillism, the students "recreated" the Georges Seurat masterpiece, "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte." After completing the project, students visited the Topiary Garden, located in Columbus' Deaf School Park, situated behind the main branch of the Metropolitan Library. The snapshots below were taken with each student posing with topiary figures. In this way, students were able to actually experience the ambiance of the painting from the inside out.
