The Museum of the Republic is located in a neibourhood built by Francisco de Almeida Grandella, dating from the beging of this century. The Museum is dedicated to the study and research of Contemporary Portuguese History.
It has a permanent link with universities and cultural associations. In the Museum, the public can find various pieces of work and documents wich give a different insight on the 1st Portuguese Republic. In addition, there is a variety of underground documents opposing the New State.There are various exhibitions which are fully available to schools. Among these, the following stand out: "The Portuguese Republic and its Presidents"; "The 25th of April"; "Francisco Grandella"; "Aristides Sousa Mendes"; "Mário Dionísio"; "The Spanish Civil War"; and "Braancamp Freire, the First Republican Mayor of Lisbon".
In addition, the Museum has a large
video section with over 1000 videos on themes related to Portuguese Contemporary
History.
