Message from
Pat Thornton,
the 1999 Consular Ball Corporate Chair
On behalf of the Consular Ball Committee and the 11,000 Chicago-based American Airlines and American Eagle employees, it is a pleasure to welcome you to the 1999 Consular Ball.  This celebration and the Humanitarian Award presentation is reflective of the Library of International Relations’ belief that the Consular Corps plays a major role in Chicago’s global economic development and its world-class reputation.

The Library of International Relations has historically recognized and honored individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to Chicago’s image as a premier international business center and who have made philanthropic contributions to the community.

American Airlines is pleased to salute this year’s Eloise G. ReQua Humanitarian Award recipient, John David Mooney.  The John David Mooney Foundation emphasizes the spiritual and social aspects of being an artist.  These aspects are demonstrated through his dedication to providing training programs to apprentice artists as well as creating the “Chicago Prize” awarded to outstanding international artists.  His personal generosity, providing apprenticeships and internships to artists and architects from around the world, make him an ideal recipient of this auspicious award.

This year’s Committee extends a special thank you to all in attendance for your support and personal interest shown in the Library of International Relations.  Your contributions and dedication are greatly appreciated and will ensure the growth of the Library’s service to Chicago.

Best wishes for a delightful and extraordinary evening.
