eShare Technologies Announces First Easy to Use UNIX Based Chat Server

eShare Expressions Chat Technology Opens Up New Revenue Streams for UNIX Dominated Internet Service Provider Market

HAUPPAUGE, NY (March 13, 1997) — Further enhancing their position as leaders in next-generation chat technology, eShare Technologies Inc. today announced that it is unveiling the widely adopted eShare Expressions server software for UNIX based Solaris and AIX ports.

eShare Expressions, recently released for Windows NT, will now provide a cost effective solution for the UNIX-dominated Internet Service Provider (ISP) market. eShare Expressions multi-homing features enable ISPs to resell chat to both users and advertisers on a larger, more cost effective scale than ever before. eShare's solution also makes the migration path easier for users or ISPs considering switching platforms from UNIX to Windows NT.

This will have major ramifications for the ISP market, said Michael Oeth of Interport Communications Corporation, a leading New York/Tri-State regional ISP. Current UNIX solutions are sloppy, tedious to install, expensive to buy, and also resell. eShare Expressions is one-sixth the cost, easily re-sellable to subscribers, and remarkably quick to install.

eShare Expressions revolutionary multihoming feature enables Web Site administrators to install various versions of the same chat software on one server, greatly increasing the numbers able to participate in online conversations. This allows ISPs to resell a greater number of chat licenses at a price the user can afford and enables ISPs to also sell advertising space on their subscribers' chat rooms.

As an advertising vehicle, chat has a great amount of potential, said Peter Dushkin, Internet Analyst at Jupiter Communications in New York. Users chatting in areas defined by interests or repeatedly posting to topical bulletin boards is unquestionable fodder for targeted advertising. Users spend far less time on Web pages than they do at chat or chat-enabled sites (30-plus minutes on average).

eShare Expressions advanced end-user experience, coupled with the financial implications of multi-homing make it a win-win for ISPs, said Michael Oeth. Online chat is estimated to reach as high as $1 billion in advertising revenue by the year 2000 according to Montgomery securities.

eShare Expressions is made to be re-sellable, said James Tito, President and CEO of eShare. In a cut-throat market, ISPs no longer compete solely on subscription costs and service support. Thanks to eShare Expressions, they can now resell chat to both users and advertisers.

eShare Expressions, released late last month, has already been adopted by Lotus Development Corporation, Sony Music, GeoCities, and OnLive! Technologies Inc. Lotus recently used eShare Expressions on its innovative Lotusphere Web site (www.lotusphere.com) to encourage and facilitate knowledge exchange. Sony Music has also adopted eShare Expressions for its popular Live By Request telecast, to enliven audience participation via the Web (www.livebyrequest.com).

This week, OnLive! announced it is licensing eShare Expressions for incorporation into the new OnLive! text server and GeoCities announced that it has selected eShare Expressions as its preferred community-building communications tool for its site (www.geocities.com), the seventh most trafficked on the Web.

eShare Expressions is the first powerful, easy-to-use and cost-effective chat solution of its kind on the market, empowering corporations, organizations, and individuals to easily create highly interactive, inclusive worlds that promote productivity, participation, and partnership on the World Wide Web.

Unlike competing products, eShare Expressions can be installed in minutes even by non-technical users and its chat client requires no client downloads or plug-ins. Also, unlike competing products, the Java-based Expressions chat client operates behind firewalls, a critical feature for corporate acceptance, given that firewalls protect nearly 50% of Internet users. The competitively priced base solution allows simultaneous communication for up to 50 chatters with the possibility of expansion to an unlimited number of people. The eShare Expressions chat client will also be available in HTML and ActiveX versions.

eShare Technologies Inc. is the only company focused on creating powerful Web-based interpersonal communications software that can be readily and easily deployed by corporations, organizations, and individuals seeking to create highly interactive inclusive worlds that promote productivity, participation, and partnership. With early-stage financing from SOFTBANK Ventures Inc., Chase Capital Partners, and Flatiron Partners, the Hauppauge, NY, software developer has launched Expressions, a breakthrough product that is redefining the chat market.
