Computer Associates teams with eShare Technologies to sponsor Internet Chat on Missing Children Awareness

Online Interactive Discussion Focuses On Photo Identification As Key To Finding Missing Children

ISLANDIA, N.Y., May 12, 1998 — Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that it has joined forces with eShare Technologies, Inc. to offer an online chat with parents, youngsters and other concerned parties to learn more about the vital role that photo identification can play in finding missing children.

The chat room, scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, at 8:00 P.M. EST, is part of the "Picture Them Home" campaign launched by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The event will feature NCMEC President Ernie Allen, who will field questions and discuss why a greater public awareness of proper photo identification can greatly increase the odds of finding a missing child.

The discussion can be accessed via the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's Web site at www.missingkids.com. The site, which currently receives about two million hits per day, also features two new interactive safety quizzes for parents and kids.

"There is hardly anything more dreadful to a parent than the prospect of a missing child," said Marc Sokol, CA senior vice president and NCMEC board member. "For those parents who actually have a missing child, it is encouraging to see an expanded public awareness of their plight. That is why CA has been a long-time partner of NCMEC, as well as a proud supporter of the 'Picture Them Home' campaign."

The NCMEC's new "Picture Them Home" campaign is intended to raise awareness of the power of pictures in the search for missing children. One out of seven children featured in the NCMEC photo-distribution program is recovered as a direct result of someone in the general public recognizing a missing child in a picture and notifying authorities.

Despite the success of the NCMEC's efforts, many people are unaware of the role they can play by recognizing a missing child from a photo, and helping reunite that child with his or her family. "That's why getting people to really pay attention to missing children photos is so vital to our efforts," said Mr. Allen. "It is also the reason why corporate sponsors like CA and eShare, who have a great deal of technological and marketing power, are so very much appreciated by the Center."

"eShare is extremely proud to be part of this important public awareness campaign," said Jim Tito, president and CEO of eShare. "A corporation is not just a faceless entity. It's made up of people, faces, and real lives. We are extremely pleased that our company's chat software is being used to help open up a dialog on this critical social issue."
