(BUSINESS WIRE) Aug. 25, 1998 The next generation of AT&T Chat `N Talk (www.chatntalk.att.com) today makes its debut on Lycos (NASDAQ:LCOS - news), "Your Personal Guide to the Internet,'' enabling up to seven people to turn an online chat session into a confidential, real-time voice conversation. AT&T Chat `N Talk is the first of a family of AT&T Inter@ctive Communications, developed by AT&T Labs, to be featured on the Lycos Web site (www.lycos.com). In addition to expanding the number of people who can participate on AT&T Chat `N Talk from two to seven, participants also benefit from a streamlined set-up process, and the ability to add known parties from outside the chat room. The enhancements to AT&T Chat `N Talk on Lycos have been made possible through a collaboration between AT&T and eShare Technologies, a provider of enterprise-class interaction software and services. "Working closely with industry leaders Lycos and e-Share, we are rapidly enhancing the AT&T Chat 'N Talk experience,'' said Dan Schulman, president of AT&T WorldNet(R) Service and AT&T Inter@ctive Communications. "The evolution of this service from a `one-on-one' model to a multi-party communications tool reinforces AT&T's commitment to driving interactive communications on the Web.'' "This next generation of AT&T Chat 'N Talk helps define the word ''community" when speaking about how the Net is bringing people together,'' noted Robert J. Davis, president & CEO of Lycos Inc. "Through a combination of AT&T's advanced communications and e-Share's hosting technology, Lycos chat group participants can come together in an anonymous vocal forum.'' "eShare is proud to include the technology of the Expressions product line in the expanded services of pioneering companies such as AT&T and Lycos,'' said James Tito, President and CEO of eShare Technologies, Inc. eShare's Expressions is a powerful server-based software solution for adding live, real-time interaction to Web sites.
How it Works: After entering the number, the participant's phone will ring (this service requires one telephone line separate from the Internet connection). To expedite the evolution of AT&T Inter@ctive Communications, AT&T will open up the service's APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) for licensing, and provide software kits to create new communications applications.
