RESOLUTION ON PARTICIPATION OF COMPANIES AND ORGANIZATIONS

(OTHER THAN THOSE ELIGIBLE FOR AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP)

IN APT ACTIVITIES

 

THE 8^TH SESSION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

 

Considering that

 

In order to enhance the APT’s role in the balanced development of telecommunications services in the Asia-Pacific region in the information society age, private and government owned companies, R&D institutions and organizations such as telecommunication equipment manufacturers, associates of manufacturers, and consulting companies need to be invited to various APT activities; and

 

The participation of private and government owned companies and organizations in various APT activities is essential for APT activities in recognizing that the expertise, technology and financial resources can be contributed by the private sector;

 

Noting

 

The MC Resolution No. 91/03;

 

Resolves that

 

The private and government owned companies and organizations other than those eligible for affiliate membership may be invited to participate in APT activities in accordance with the following terms of reference:

1.    participation should be open to any company or organization which

(a) is interested in APT activities;

(b) has headquarters, regional offices or local offices located in the Asia-Pacific region.

 

2.    Any such company or organization, upon informing the APT, through the nominating Member or Associate Member, in a  communication addressed to the Executive Director of its willingness to uphold the APT Constitution shall participate in the APT activities with effect from the date of the receipt of such communication.

 

3.    the rights of the companies and organizations are:

(a) to obtain the annual programme of APT activities;

(b) to participate in APT activities (when participating in General Assembly and Management Committee, the   companies and organizations shall be given status equivalent to Observers, while in other activities they shall be  given full participative rights);

(c) to obtain a free copy of APT publications and reports;

(d) to purchase extra copies of APT publications and reports at the same price as Members*.

 

4.     The obligations of the companies and organizations are to pay an annual participation fee to the APT similar to that of Affiliate Members.

5.     Those companies and organizations that have already participated according to the MC resolution No. 91/03 will be accorded the status as described in this Resolution;

 

Instructs the Executive Director

 

1.         to manage the participation of the companies and organizations;

2.         to include the contributions from the companies and organizations in the APT budget according to the Constitutions and other rules; and

3.         to report to the Management Committee annually concerning the status of the participation of the companies and organizations.
