**1999-2000 SCHOOL CALENDAR:** Due to the inclement weather that we experienced over the winter months, our 1999-2000 school calendar has been amended as follows:
Friday, June 23rd – Early Dismissal – Students/Staff
Monday, June 26th – Early Dismissal – Last day for Students/Staff
Monday, June 26th – 8th Grade Graduation
(June 19th and 20th will be regular full day sessions for students/staff)
FOURTH GRADE STATE ASSESSMENT: The fourth grade will begin the Elementary School Proficiency Assessment (ESPA) the first week of May. This test is designed to provide information about how well the students are achieving in the areas required by New Jersey’s Core Curriculum Content Standards. An information booklet will be sent home today to all fourth grade parents which explains the testing process. Students should be well rested when they take the test. Please see that your child goes to bed early during the week, eats a nutritious breakfast, and arrives to school on time.
PTA MEETING: The general meeting has been changed from May 2 to Tuesday, May 9 at 7:15 p.m. at the Bobby’s Run School library. We will be voting for our new officers from the 2000-2001 school year. Nominations from the floor will be accepted. If you are interested in becoming an officer, you need to be a PTA member who has chaired a committee this year and is familiar with how the PTA is run. The nominating committee has selected candidates, who are: President – Theresa Slason VP LMS – Susan DiGiovanne, VP BRS – Cindy Monteleone, VP FLW – Rose Conicella, Treasurer – Mia Baker, Recording Secretary – Tammy Gerhart, and Corresponding Secretary – Marian Barr. If you are a PTA member and are interested in the PTA affairs, please join us and vote for the candidates that you feel will do the best job for your children.
SUMMER BAND PROGRAM 2000: This summer we are offering an instrumental music program to all students that play a band instrument in present grades 5th – 8th. They will have a band rehearsal every day from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. followed by an hour weekly group lesson/sectional from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. There will be a concert on Friday, July 28th at 7:00 p.m. Summer Band will be held from June 28th to July 28th in the Lumberton Middle School Band Room. The fee for this program is $42.00 per student. Registration forms will be distributed shortly. Hope to see all band students playing this summer.

-- ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS: There are a limited number of positions available for the summer months starting Monday, June 26, 2000. Interested candidates should contact Mr. Ron McElhone at 609-267-9749.LUMBERTON TOWNSHIP BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETINGS: The Regular and Reorganization Board meetings are scheduled for Thursday, April 20th in the Lumberton Middle School. The Reorganization meeting will commence at 7:30 p.m., with the Regular meeting following.

Interested candidates should contact Mrs. Linda Koveloski at 609-261-6320 or 609-859-1955 for more information.**SUBSTITUTES NEEDED** – ATTENTION: College Students home on Spring break and Stay-at-Home Moms: The Lumberton Township School District is seeking candidates to substitute in the following capacities: teachers, classroom aides, school nurses, secretaries, custodians and extended day care aides. The district is especially low in the area of substitute teachers. If you have 60 college credits you can qualify to substitute teach. If you know of anyone who can assist us in this endeavor, please contact Mrs. Carol Riepen at 265-7709, ext. 3614 for more information. Substituting is a rewarding and challenging experience – plus earn extra money!!
RANCOCAS VALLEY REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL BOARD MEETING:
RVRHS will not hold a Board of Education meeting in April. The next
regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at 8 p.m., with the
Reorganization Meeting being held prior to the regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. in
Room C-120.
YOUTH ACHIEVERS’ COMMITTEE OF BURLINGTON COUNTY: The committee will present "Stepping Into the Explosive World of Science" on May 6, 2000 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Willingboro High School. Students in grades K-3rd can create posters about a scientist, science profession or science subject. Students in grades 4th-8th should write an essay about a scientist, science profession or science subject. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place cash prizes will be awarded in each category on May 6th. Posters and essays need to be submitted by April 21st to the Youth Achievers’ Committee, P. O. Box 1264, Burlington, NJ 08016. For more information, contact Bernice Covin at 609-871-3869.
THE LUMBERTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Society is planning an open house at the museum along with a plant and bake sale on Saturday, May 6, 2000 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gaun Community Center, 602 Main Street. Mr. Weldon Storey will be the guest speaker. Mr. Storey has recently written and published his autobiography, which includes many stories about his boyhood days in Lumberton. RVRHS CHEERLEADING CLINIC AND TRYOUTS - ATTENTION 8TH GRADE GIRLS AND BOYS: The clinic will be held May 15th through May 18th from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the RVRHS large gym. Actual tryouts will be held on Thursday, May 18th at 3:30 p.m. in the large gym. You must attend all clinics in order to tryout. You will learn cheers, chants, stunts and a dance for tryouts. Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers and no jewelry. If you have never cheered before, please feel free to come and try out. If you play a spring sport and can’t make the times of tryouts, please contact Ms. Nerozzi at 267-0830, ext. 3438.
ATTENTION YOUNG WOMEN, AGES 9 THROUGH 15: The Burlington County Committee on Women is sponsoring "Reach For the Stars" mentoring program on Thursday, May 18th from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the Lecture Hall of the Human Services Facility on Woodlane Road in Westampton. This event is designed to enlighten and expose young women in Burlington County to the vast array of career opportunities available. LUMBERTON RECREATION NEWS
OFFICIAL LOGO CONTEST: Lumberton Recreation will be conducting a Logo Contest. We would like to create a new logo to be used on various Township documents. Residents of all ages are encouraged to enter the contest. The winner will be awarded a $100 Savings Bond. Contest rules, criteria and additional information is available at the Township Complex during regular business hours. Deadline to enter your logo is May 31st.
