SPRING BREAK: Lumberton Township Schools will be closed April 21st through April 28th. School will resume on Monday, May 1st. Have a safe and restful vacation.
WALTHER YEARBOOK: Order forms were issued to the students earlier this week. The Walther Yearbook will be on sale through May 8th. A class picture, individual portraits and many pages of activities will be provided with the 40 page book. We hope you will consider purchasing this collection of special memories.
$ 1,141.86 FOR THE RAINFOREST: Congratulations to the first grade students for their excellent fundraiser to save the rainforest. The collection of $ 1,141.86 will save over 32 acres of the rainforest in the Maya Mountain Marine Corridor of Belize (near Panama).
NATIONAL SPORTS AND FITNESS WEEK: The week of May 1-7 is National Sports and Fitness Week. On Wednesday, May 3rd, the Walther students will join Project ACES (All Children Exercising Simultaneously). A letter and permission form will be coming home shortly explaining ACES. Our ACES activity will acknowledge the importance of life long fitness.
RANCOCAS VALLEY REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL BOARD MEETING:
There will be no Board of Education meeting held in April. The next
regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at 8 p.m., with the
Reorganization Meeting held at 7:30 p.m. in Room C-120.
YOUTH ACHIEVERS’ COMMITTEE OF BURLINGTON COUNTY presents "Stepping Into the Explosive World of Science" on May 6, 2000 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Willingboro High School. Students in grades K-3rd can create posters about a scientist, science profession or science subject. Students in grades 4th-8th should write an essay about a scientist, science profession or science subject. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place cash prizes will be awarded in each category on May 6th. THE LUMBERTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Society is planning an open house at the museum along with a plant and bake sale on Saturday, May 6, 2000 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gaun Community Center, 602 Main Street. Mr. Weldon Storey will be the guest speaker. Mr. Storey has recently written and published his autobiography, which includes many stories about his boyhood days in Lumberton. RUMMAGE SALE: St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church will sponsor a rummage sale on May 10 & 11. The church is located on Main Street, Lumberton. Come find some "treasures". Lunch will be available both days. A White Elephant Sale and $ 1.00 a bag sale are planned. The hours of operation include:

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK: April 10-14 was National Volunteer Week. The PTA would like to thank all the parents, teachers, administration and any other volunteer who has helped at our schools this year. Without your dedication and assistance, our programs would not be as successful as they have been.
LEARNING FAIR/ART SHOW: Please mark your calendar and plan to be with us for the annual exhibit of students' fine work and accomplishments. The Walther School Learning Fair and Art Show will be held on Tuesday, May 9th, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
**1999-2000 SCHOOL CALENDAR:** Due to the inclement weather that we experienced over the winter months, our 1999-2000 school calendar has been amended as follows:
Friday, June 23rd – Early Dismissal – Students/Staff
Monday, June 26th – Early Dismissal – Last day for Students/Staff
Monday, June 26th – 8th Grade Graduation
(June 19th and 20th will be regular full day sessions for students/staff)
LUMBERTON TOWNSHIP BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETINGS: The Regular and Reorganization Board meetings are scheduled for Thursday, April 20th in the Lumberton Middle School. The Reorganization meeting will commence at 7:30 p.m., with the Regular meeting following.
KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP: We are currently seeking children eligible for entrance to kindergarten in September 2000. If you know of a child who will be five years of age by September 30, please ask the parent to contact the Walther School office or complete a kindergarten Round-Up form.
PTA MEETING: The general meeting has been changed from May 2 to Tuesday, May 9 at 7:15 pm at the BRS library. We will be voting for our new officers for the 2000-2001 school year. Nominations from the floor will be accepted. If you are interested in becoming an officer, you need to be a PTA member who has chaired a committee this year and is familiar with how the PTA is run. The nominating committee has selected candidates, who are: President - Theresa Slason, VP LMS- Susan DeGiovanne, VP BRS - Cindy Monteleone, VP FLW - Rose Conicella, Treasurer - Mia Baker, Recording Secretary - Tammy Gerhart and Corresponding Secretary - Marian Barr. If you are a PTA member and have an interest in PTA affairs, please join us and vote for the candidates that you feel will do the best job for your children.
SUMMER BAND PROGRAM: This summer we are offering an instrumental music program to all students that play a band instrument in present grades 5-8. They will have a band rehearsal every day from 9:00-10:00 a.m., followed by an hour weekly group lesson/sectional from 10:00-11:00 a.m. There will be a concert on Friday, July 28th at 7:00 p.m. Summer Band will be held from June 28th to July 28th in the LMS Band Room. The fee for this program is $ 42 per student. Registration forms will be distributed shortly. Hope to see all you band students playing this summer.
**SUBSTITUTES NEEDED** – ATTENTION: College Students home on Spring break and Stay-at-Home Moms: The Lumberton Township School District is seeking candidates to substitute in the following capacities: teachers, classroom aides, school nurses, secretaries, custodians and extended day care aides. The district is especially low in the area of substitute teachers. If you have 60 college credits you can qualify to substitute teach. If you know of anyone who can assist us in this endeavor, please contact Mrs. Carol Riepen at 265-7709, ext. 3614 for more information. Substituting is a rewarding and challenging experience – plus earn extra money!!

RVRHS CHEERLEADING CLINIC AND TRYOUTS - ATTENTION 8TH GRADE GIRLS AND BOYS: Clinic will be held May 15th through May 18th from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the RVRHS large gym. Actual tryouts will be held on Thursday, May 18th at 3:30 p.m. in the large gym. You must attend all clinics in order to tryout. You will learn cheers, chants, stunts and a dance for tryouts. Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers and no jewelry. If you have never cheered before, please feel free to come and try out. ATTENTION YOUNG WOMEN, AGES 9 THROUGH 15: The Burlington County Committee on Women is sponsoring "Reach For the Stars" mentoring program on Thursday, May 18th from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the Lecture Hall of the Human Services Facility on Woodlane Road in Westampton. This event is designed to enlighten and expose young women in Burlington County to the vast array of career opportunities available.
