Help Sessions Posted Thursday, January 06, 2000 WHO: Any 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade student who needs to retake the Reading, Math and/or Writing Basic Skills Test(s) this year.
WHAT: These will be help sessions in reading, math and writing that are specifically geared for the skills tested on the grad standards test. We will also discuss test taking strategies and learning how to cope with test anxiety. Mr. Sorenson will be running the math sessions, and Mrs. Carol Larson will be helping with the reading and writing sessions.
WHEN: The following dates will be available before school (7:45 am). Each help session will last approximately half an hour. All times for testing will be 7:45-8:15 am.
READING AND WRITING HELP SESSION DATES Tuesday, January 11 Thursday, January 13 Tuesday, January 18 Thursday, January 20 Tuesday, January 25 Thursday, January 27 (Reading Only) Monday, January 31 (Reading Only)
MATH HELP SESSION DATES Friday, January 7 Monday, January 10 Wednesday, January 12 Wednesday, January 19 Monday, January 24 Wednesday, January 26 Wednesday, February 2
WHERE: Help sessions will be held at Little Falls Community High School. The math help sessions will be held in the Math/Science lecture hall. The reading help sessions will be held in the English/Social lecture hall.
WHY: We want your child to succeed in passing these tests this year, so they no longer have to worry about it during their high school career. The Writing Test will be given on Wednesday, January 26, 2000. The Reading Test of Basic Skills will be given Tuesday, February 1, 2000. The Mathematics Test of Basic Skills will be given Thursday, February 3, 2000. Research has shown that learning done within 4-6 weeks before a testing date has the greatest carryover to the test itself. Retention is best during this time.
WHAT CAN YOU DO AT HOME? Look for practice tests that your child will be bringing home and work with them. Mr. Sorenson will be contacting each student during the first two weeks of December and handing out practice tests and reminding students of the help sessions.
If you have any questions please call Maxine Strege at 632-2008.
