Softball is here! Posted Wednesday, April 12, 2000 The softball season is upon us and the games are about to begin! The Flyer Softball Team is ready to take on the challenge of Central Lakes competiton. The team will travel to St. Cloud Tech on April 13 for a conference game, then will participate in the Pierz Invitational Tournament on April 15. The Flyers will play Staples, Pierz and Moose Lake in the three round tournament which starts at 10 AM at the Pierz High School. Next week the Flyers have three games scheduled, Alexandria at LF on the 17th, LF at Rocori on the 18th, and Brainerd at LF on the 20th. KB teams headed for State! Posted Friday, April 07, 2000 Two knowledge bowl teams from the Little Falls Community High School earned a spot in the Minnesota State Knowledge Bowl Tournament by way of their top finishes in the region tournament on Wednesday, April 5, in Staples. Finishing in first place at regions, with 110 points, was the team of Steven Heise, Kyle Hokanson, Josh Steffenson and Jonathan Wichmann. Peqout Lakes finished in second place with 95 points and another Little Falls team finished in third place with 92 points. The third place finish qualified the team of Paul Barnes, Jeff Cox, David Ginder-Vogel, Dustin Hollermann and Adam Surma for state competition. The remaining teams in the region finished as follows: Sebeka(87), Brainerd(79), Crosby Ironton(77), Wadena Deer Creek(75), Staples-Motley(66), and Cass Lake(65). The Minnesota State Knowledge Bowl Tournament will be held on May 1 & 2 at Cragun's Conference Center on Gull Lake near Brainerd.
Model United Nations Posted Thursday, March 16, 2000 The Model UN Program is a great opportunity for students interested in social studies, International policy, law, politics and more. Participation in the program is limited to 20 students each year. The following 20 students participated this year: Joli Austin, Anne Roach, Emily Ackerman, Erin Blair, Beth Petrich, Laura May, Anna Pederson, Rachel Greene, Jen Wichmann, Rose Carlson, Adam Surma, David Ginder-Vogel, Kenny Braud, Jeff Cox, Greg Rupp, Matt Germscheid, Janelle Januschka, Jessica Peterschick, Ryan Schrupp and Kent Binger. The activity is coordinated through the Minneapolis YMCA Youth in Government program by the Talented and Gifted Program at the Community High School. The Model United Nations Assembly was held on March 24-26 in the Twin Cities. At the assembly, Adam Surma of LFCHS was voted as the Outstanding Delegate in the Economic and Social Council.
LifeSmarts Team at State! Posted Thursday, March 16, 2000 The Flyer LifeSmarts team of Josh Steffenson, Adam Surma, Kyle Hokanson and Danny Jensen placed fourth out of 25 teams competing in the Minnesota State LifeSmarts Championships on Tuesday, March 7, in Minneapolis. The team qualified for the state tournament after winning the Region 3 LifeSmarts Championship in February. Congratulations on a great showing!
