The Alameda County Office of Education is now accepting applications for the following:

TEACHER

Juvenile Court & County Community Centers/School & the Pregnant Minors Program/School Age Mothers Program

POSITION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Teachers within the Juvenile Court School system are one of the primary service providers of the educational program for youthful offenders who are wards or dependents of the Juvenile Court. Teachers instruct students in locked/secured settings such as Juvenile Hall and in open detention camps with an on-site school program. The Alameda County Office of Education through its Juvenile Court School program, works in cooperation with the Alameda County Probation Department to serve students who reside in these facilities which are under the direction of the Department.

The Pregnant Minors Program (PMP)/School Age Mothers (SAM) is a secondary program providing academic instruction and support services for pregnant and parenting teens.

Other county teaching positions are within the Community Day Centers/Schools. Teachers working at these schools serve youthful offenders who are on formal probation or who are expelled from school districts. Unlike the institutional school programs, the students live at home in the community. Juvenile Court School and Community School instructors teach a wide range of subjects including but not limited to English, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Computer Technology, and Career Awareness. These subjects may be taught in a "self-contained" or in a "departmentalized" structure. County school settings require a teacher to be able to shift from a departmentalized structure of teaching one or two subject areas, to teaching six subjects to one class, as needed by the program. Teaching assignments vary annually requiring versatile teaching preparation and background, as well as flexibility in teaching at different assigned school sites.
