COUNTY OFFICE HONORS DISTINGUISHED SCHOOLS,
FRIENDS OF EDUCATION AND SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERSTwo California Distinguished Schools, 11 District Friends of Education and 16 School Board members were honored at a banquet hosted by the Alameda County Superintendent of Schools Sheila Jordan, on Sept. 30 at the San Leandro Marina Community Center.
The two California Distinguished Schools recognized earlier this year by the California Department of Education were Irvington High School in the Fremont Unified School District and Wells Middle School in the Dublin Unified School District.
"Each of these schools is an outstanding example of successful teaching and learning, strong family and community involvement and partnerships with the business community," said Jordan.
Also honored were eleven Friends of Education who were nominated by their school districts for "outstanding leadership ability and contributions of time and service in the interest of public education in his or her community."
Sixteen school board members also received certificates in honor of their years of service on their school boards. Those honored were:
FIVE YEARS - Berresford Bingham and Anna Elefant, Alameda; Marsha Skinner, Albany; Ted Schultz, Berkeley; George Granger, Castro Valley; Gwen Estes, New Haven (Union City); William McMillin and Janice Schaefer, Newark; Brenda Knight, Peralta Community College District; Helen Randall, San Lorenzo; and Bob Chisholm, Sunol Glen.
