JOHN BURTON is currently the Director for Student Services of Fontana Unified School District, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools. His current responsibilities cover the area of discipline and due process. For the past 30 years he has been responsible within various organizations for school discipline inservices and crime reporting responsibilities. Hate crime has repeatedly been a problem within the area of school discipline, crime reporting and public awareness. HILDA CLARICE QUIROZ is presently the Health Program Developer for the Publishing Division of Education Training and Research Associates. She is a published author. Her most recent book Start With The Kids is a classroom community building curriculum. As a national consultant, she has designed programs and presented trainings and key notes on diversity issues and cultural responsiveness. Along with North America she has served audiences from Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. Above all, her most significant accolade is that of having been a classroom teacher for 19 years. VINCE REYES is the Multicultural Multilingual Coordinator of Alameda County, charged with overseeing the language rights and cultural access to county services. Vince was one of the founders of ethnic studies at California State University, Sacramento and taught Asian American studies courses at Berkeley and other Colleges and Universities. He was the director of youth gang programs in Los Angeles and San Diego and of anti-crime programs for senior citizens with the San Francisco Police Department. He is Chairperson of the Planning Commission and the Human Relations Commission in Oakland. Vince co-authored the Alameda Hate Violence Prevention Plan which has become a model for government response to hate crimes. (510) 208-1208

MICHAEL WONG is project coordinator of the Marin Human Roundtable Against Hate Violence. Michael also works with Intergroup Clearinghouse, the San Francisco-based hate violence prevention organization. He worked for 11 years as a civil rights attorney, was an administrative aide with the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, and worked as an affirmative action officer with the San Francisco Housing Authority. Among other accomplishments, he helped develop a hate crime reporting system for the San Francisco Police Department and co-authored the Alameda County Hate Violence Prevention Plan. Wong works extensively on issues of hate violence, intergroup conflict, and violence against Asian Pacific Americans. (415) 751-3924

BILL YBARRA has been an educator for 30 years; 13 as a classroom teacher, 17 as an administrator. He has taught math, reading, Spanish and architecture. In addition, he has taught at the community college level and the state university system. He is currently the Administrative Project Director for the Safe Schools Center with the Los Angeles County Office of Education. He provides a full range of services related to safe schools issues to over 81 school districts in Los Angeles County. Having worked in the area of Child Welfare and Attendance, Bill has a thorough understanding of Education Code as it relates to Hate Crimes. (562) 922-6391
