Superintendent Jordan to Loan County’s Business Officer; Oakland USD Gets Top Finance Help
Superintendent of Schools Sheila Jordan and the new Oakland Schools Superintendent Dennis Chaconas, jointly announced today that the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) will loan its chief business officer, Pete Yasitis, to the Oakland Unified School District for a minimum of one year. Yasitis, who has been Associate Superintendent for Business Services at the county office for eight years, will start in Oakland on March 1.
Jordan said that Yasitis’ contract with the Alameda County Office of Education is based on a partnership in which Yasitis will serve as Deputy Superintendent of Business for Oakland, however he will continue to provide leadership to the County Office in supporting the fiscal health and welfare of the other 16 school districts served by ACOE. He will also be available to coach his replacement at ACOE. Yasitis will not be involved in any matters related to AB1200 that the county office pursues with the Oakland District.
"Pete has a vital role to play in Oakland," said Jordan. "I am excited about the prospect of the county office, school district, and City of Oakland all working together to benefit Oakland’s school children. Pete’s talent and experience will enable him to be a key player in the development of that partnership."
According to Chaconas, "Pete Yasitis is the most qualified person for this very challenging task. He is the one I wanted, and now that he is on board, I know that together we can correct Oakland’s fiscal problems."
Yasitis said, "I have been very fortunate. My role with the county office has made it possible for me to provide assistance to many districts, and I have found that professionally very rewarding. Now I can continue that to some extent, and still do what I can to help Oakland. I am looking forward to the challenge."
Yasitis has served in key business roles in Alameda County public schools for twenty years. In addition to his eight years with the county office, he has lead business functions for the San Lorenzo, Hayward, and Fremont school districts. He is respected for his talent for helping districts pinpoint budget and finance problems and develop short and long range plans that reestablish financial stability.
