1999 Leadership Fellows(HAYWARD, CA) Sixteen educators from throughout the nation have been selected as participants in the Rockefeller Brothers Fund Program for Educational Leadership. One local leadership fellow is Nadriah Moreland, Oakland Technical High School, Oakland. The program is a 36-month leadership development opportunity for teachers of color. It is designed to help dedicated individuals in the early years of their careers develop and enhance their leadership skills so that they can more effectively and creatively address the complex issues facing America’s schools and students.
Leadership fellows will be awarded up to $16,500 in grants over a three-year period to conduct an education change project and to participate in leadership development activities. They will also receive a personal computer and Internet access assistance. In addition, fellows will attend two meetings per year and will be assigned two mentors to encourage and guide their professional and personal growth and development during the three-year program. Mentor Rafael Ramirez, Principal and Administrator of Pregnant Minors Program/School Age Mothers and the Thunder Road Community Day center, represents Alameda County.
To be eligible, teachers must have been a recipient of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund’s Fellowship for Minority Students Entering the Teaching Profession and they should have completed at last three years as a classroom teacher or in an education-related area.
