10 Things I've Learned about Wrestling this Week ending 6/16.
6/16/00

WCW has had quite a week in the employee relations department. Tammy Lyn Sytch appears to have been let go and Kimberly Page has up and quit. Both are unfortunate for different reasons. Tammy because this seems to be another chapter in the destruction of a once sizzling. Kimberly because she was coming into her own as a femme fatale. The fans were just beginning to get used to booing the beauty.

Kimberly left on good terms with WCW, despite the creative differences she cited. Many are whispering this was ploy to get the time off to share with her husband, Diamond Dallas Page, that she wanted all along. Effectively, taking a leave of absence without pay. I hope that is true. Tammy's road looks a lot rougher than that. I can only hope that she gets the helps she needs and can find her way back to the ring and to her fans, in the condition that she can best highlight her considerable talent. Good luck to her.

Hit my new fragrancin' music!!!

10. The Triple Threat is back!!! That could be great or it could be horrible. Big risk trying to right stories for a faction you didn't create. I have a bad feeling about this.

9. The Rikishi/Val Venis feud is looking like one of the most violent WWF has had to offer in a long time. This could be a feud that is not only good for three or four more PPV's, but could be legendary. It's good to see a talented worker like Val Venis getting something to sink his teeth into, metamorphisizing his character like HHH's was (remember when HHH was spoiled rich kid who couldn't win without help from Sable?).

8. I noticed how difficult it is to remember who is holding what title in WCW. For the uninitiated, World champ is Jarrett, US champ is Scott Steiner, Cruiserweight is Chavo Guerrero (hell no I ain't calling him Lt. Loco) and Hardcore is Big Vito of the Marmalukes (more on them later). Tag Champs is Chuck Palumbo and Stan Stasiak.

7. Trish Stratus is showing strong heel-ess potential. More reasons to look at her.

6. I ahve always been a fan of Vince McMahon's DeNiro like ability to tell a whole story with his facial expression. Vince Russo is a quickly gaining ground. The bit where he had the nervous breakdown over Ric Flair was hysterical.

5. The Marmalukes should have been split a long time ago. Big Vito certainly has the chops to go it alone, Johnny the Bull (according to the internet chat rooms) is quickly becoming a female fave. Use that!

4. WCW released a number of Mexican wrestlers last week, just nothing for them to do. WCW's roster is so big right now, they are clearly going to have to make more cuts. By the way, why does Sting need more time off? WE all know about the stunt man.........

3. Miss Hancock and Daffney, Paisley and Major Guns....about a year ago, WCW had virtually no interest in the women other than Nitro Girls (I, for one, don't miss them). Times have changed.

2. DDP gave one of the best shoots I ever saw on Nitro, what a "swan song." Of course, he'll be back, I hope he shows that kind of mike skill when he gets back (my bet, with Kimberly).

1. Ric Flair played a role in the hair cutting incident, it was his idea, as well as his family's involvement. I want all those dipsticks who keep clammering for his retirement to ask themselves how many other people are willing to humiliate themselves for the good of the company. Long live Flair!!

Wrestler of the Week : Ric Flair, though the commentators blew the significance of the match, it was sad to see that flowing gold mane brutalized, it felt like the end of an era. Flair sold it brilliantly.

Match of the Week : Rikishi and Val Venis. Intense!!! This is a fun feud to watch unfold.

Shoot of the Week : DDP's was so excellent, he is the hands down winner. Honorable mention to Kevin Nash's Deliverance homily and Rock's bit about the Scooby snacks.

Line of the Week: I'm not going to print the whole thing, but apparently Rock has marked down Stephanie from a $2 ho to a .50 ho. What happens during the blue light special???

No PPV's this weekend, the Great American Bash was a good show, enough setting people on fire though. Next weekend is King of the Ring. Be the King of your own Ring this weekend!!!
