As part of its efforts to retain World Wrestling Federation programming, USA Cable was prepared to launch a digital "Man Cable Channel," according to court documents.
In a brief filed prior to a lawsuit civil trial that began in Chancery Court here Monday, USA Cable said president Stephen Chao proposed launching that World Wrestling Federation Enterprises Inc.-programmed channel and airing games from the WWFE's planned XFL professional-football league.
Chao, in a Jan. 17 e-mail message, also urged USA Networks Inc. chairman Barry Diller to renew a contract with WWFE as quickly as possible, along with an agreement to plow resources into the new channel.
"Our clumsy USA process is getting in the way of a speedy conclusion to this," Chao said in the e-mail to Diller.
USA Cable filed a lawsuit against WWFE, Viacom Inc. and CBS Corp. after those parties signed an agreement that would have shifted highly rated WWF programming away from USA Network.
