  • WWF KOTR Notes: Kurt Angle, Jericho, and more
By Justin Waine on June 17, 2000

The following piece is a rumor, it has not been substantiated or confirmed.

Val Venis and Rikishi have both qualified for the WWF King of the Ring Tournament. Chris Goldsmith of WrestlingInc reports that the WWF has been building up heat between Rikishi and Val Venis for the past couple of weeks. Recently, at the WWF Smackdown Tapings, Val Venis busted open Rikishi's head with a steel chair. Rikishi had to get 12 stitches in the back of the head after this beating. If you noticed, Rikishi and Val Venis are both in the same bracket of 8, which will set up a semifinal match between Val Venis and Rikishi. The WWF hasn't been building up the feud this much for nothing, and we will certainly see a Rikishi/Val Venis semifinal.

Chris Goldsmith also reports that with Triple H saying that if Rock/Undertaker/Kane did not defeat him at King of the Ring, the winner of the King of the Ring Tournament would face him, that has to give you the impression that Chris Jericho is a favorite in the King of the Ring Tournament. Jericho is basically the only man in the tournament that has major heat with Triple H. Nothing confirmed, but it is really something to think about. Also, right next to Jericho in the brackets is Kurt Angle. This could set up a possible Kurt Angle/Chris Jericho Second Round Match. If this does happen, expect Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley to get involved in the match to aid Kurt Angle in some form.
