BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Gabe Gross and Dominic Rich powered the Auburn baseball team to a 28-6 win over Samford today. The Tigers scored in all but two innings and are off to a 3-0 start.
Gross was 4-7 with eight RBI and a pair of home runs. His eight RBI was a career-high and two short of the Auburn record. Gross also scored three runs. Rich was 2-6 with four RBI and four runs scored. Rich hit his third home run of the season in as many games. The duo hit back-to-back homers in the seventh inning.
Mailon Kent scored a school-record-tying five runs and had two RBI. John Tyler and Todd Faulkner each had a pair of RBI.
Brent Speigner picked up his first collegiate win, pitching five innings. Speigner allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits, four walks and four strikeouts. Shane McDade, Jacob Sumners and Kyle Hudlow all saw action from the Auburn mound.
Samford scored its six runs on nine hits while committing a pair of errors. Dennis Thomas picked up the loss for the Bulldogs, giving up seven runs on seven hits in two innings of work.
