AUBURN- Mailon Kent made history today by becoming the first Auburn player to hit for the cycle. His hitting and a strong performance by starting pitcher Brent Speigner, helped to lead Auburn to a season sweep of UAB. With the 11-6 victory, Auburn improves to 9-0, while UAB falls to 2-2.
Brent Speigner (3-0), pitched five impressive innings, striking out nine Blazer batters, and allowing just three runs, two earned, on only three hits. A trio of pitchers consisting of Jacob Sumners, Levale Speigner, and Colter Bean closed out the game for the Tigers.
For Auburn, Mailon Kent's cycle led the way with 4 RBI's, on 4-5 hitting including his fourth homerun of the season. Chris Beaird also added 4 RBI's on 2-4 hitting. The other three runs came from the bat of Heath Higgins who went 2-2 on the afternoon.
Auburn travels to New Orleans this weekend to play in the Winn Dixie Classic. The Tigers face Tulane on Friday, February 18. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at the Superdome.
