Auburn Baseball Falls To Tulane, 11-8

NEW ORLEANS, LA.- The seventh-ranked Auburn Tiger baseball team lost its first game of the season, 11-8, to 15th-ranked Tulane, during the first day of the Winn Dixie Showdown in the Louisiana Superdome. Auburn dropped to 9-1 overall, while Tulane improved to 4-1.

Tulane jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the fourth inning after scoring four runs in the inning.

Auburn battled back scoring five runs with two outs in the fifith inning, trimming the Green Wave lead to 8-7. Gabe Gross hit a two-run home run, his fifth of the season in the inning.

After a Tulane run in the fifth, Auburn scored again in the sixth to cut the lead to 9-8 on a Gross double scoring John Tyler. The Tigers couldn't get over the hump, however as the hosts scored two runs in the sixth.

Gross was 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBI on the evening. Catcher Bobby Huddleston was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while freshman Chris Beaird had two hits.

Auburn struggled defensively, committing five errors, including four by Beaird. Tulane out hit the Tigers 16-11.

Hayden Gliemmo (2-1) was credited with the loss for the Tigers, while reliever Matt Foster (1-0) picked up the win for Tulane.

Auburn returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they play New Orleans at 1 pm in the Louisiana Superdome. The Tigers will wrap up play at the Winn Dixie Showdown when they face No. 4 Alabama in a non-conference match-up Sunday at 1 pm.
