Auburn Baseball Falls To VCU, 7-3

AUBURN- The Auburn baseball team could not make an eighth inning come back this time and fall to the VCU Rams, 7-3. This is the first win for the Rams over Auburn in 11 tries. The Tigers fall to 14-3 overall, while VCU improves to 9-3.

Auburn first-baseman Todd Faulkner led the way for the Tigers with 2 RBI on 2-for-4 hitting including his fifth homerun of the season. VCU's Jason Dubois led the way for the Rams with 6 RBI on 3-for-5 hitting including two homeruns.

Auburn freshman starter Levale Speigner had a rough start, pitching 3.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits, three strikeouts, and three walks. Shane McDade replaced Speigner in the fourth inning to pitch 2.0 innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits, one strikeout, and two walks. Kevin Knorst come on to pitch 2.1 innings. Knorst gave up no runs on one hit, three strikeouts and a walk. Justin Brown came out in the ninth and gave up one hit, struck out one and walked one batter. Levale Speigner picked up the loss and falls to 0-1 on the season.

VCU, for the third game in a row, scored first with a run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead over Auburn.

The Rams picked up three more runs in the third inning on a Jason Dubois three-run homerun and took command of the game 4-0 over Auburn.

VCU again scored three runs on a Jason Dubois three-run homerun in the sixth inning and extended their lead on Auburn, 7-0.

Auburn ended the shutout by scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth including 2 RBI for Faulkner's homerun.

Auburn hosts Troy State on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm at Plainsman Park. Chris Bootcheck (2-0) will get the start for Auburn.
