AUBURN- The 6th-ranked Auburn baseball team tuned up one last time before entering SEC play starting next weekend. The Tigers defeated Davidson College in a one game series, 10-5. Auburn will go into conference play with a 19-3 overall record, while Davidson dropped to 11-7 overall.
First baseman Todd Faulkner continued to be an offensive machine. Todd went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, including a double and a homerun to left center. The Tiger first baseman now has 10 homeruns and 37 RBIs on the season.
Senior Kevin Knorst got the start for the Tigers, pitching 0.2 innings, giving up one earned run on two hits and two walks. Then the bullpen got busy with Kyle Hudlow, Jacob Sumners, Shane McDade, Sean Jones, and even Gabe Gross seeing action in the game. Jacob Sumners got the win and moves to 2-0 on the season.
The Tigers will open the 2000 SEC schedule by hosting South Carolina in a three-game series starting Friday, March 10th. The Gamecocks have taken six in a row from Auburn including season sweeps in 1998 and 1999. First pitch set for 6:30 pm at Plainsman Park.
