AUBURN- Thirteenth-ranked Auburn went into extra innings to defeat a surprising Liberty team, 6-5. Liberty's relief pitcher Josh Brey walked Dominic Rich with the bases loaded to score Lynn Shoop in the tenth inning. The Tigers improve to 20-6 overall.
Auburn scored first on a RBI single by Gabe Gross to score Dominic Rich.
Liberty scored with a run in the third inning, but the Tigers countered with a run to put the lead at 2-1.
The Flames picked up three runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead over Auburn. Liberty's lead was cut to 4-3 on a RBI double by Chris Beaird.
Liberty held a 5-3 lead over Auburn going into the ninth inning where the Tigers scored two runs to tie up the game. Gabe Gross doubled in Todd Faulkner and Dominic Rich to put the game into extra innings.
In the tenth inning Dominic Rich got the walk and Lynn Shoop scored to win the game for the Tigers.
Auburn's Brandon Mayfield pitched 2.0 innings, striking out four batters. He moves to 4-0 on the season.
Leftfielder Gabe Gross was 2-for-5 on the day with 3 RBI, including a double. Designated Hitter Chris Beaird went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI and also a double.
The Tigers travel to Fayetteville for a weekend series with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Auburn will try to pick up their first SEC win of the season. The Hogs 2-1 in conference play, while Auburn is 0-3. Friday's game will begin at 6:30 pm CT.
