AUBURN- The eighth-ranked Auburn baseball team scored 14 runs in the
first three innings en route to a 18-6 win over the 12th-ranked Georgia
Bulldogs, tonight. The win was Auburn's fourth consecutive in conference
play and tenth straight over the Bulldogs. Auburn improved to 24-6 and 4-3
in the Southeastern Conference, while Georgia fell to 16-8 overall and 5-2
in the SEC.
After Georgia opened the game with two runs in the top of the first,
the Tigers bats got going as they posted five consecutive multiple run
innings, to grab a 18-2 advantage. Auburn pounded out four runs in the first
and five runs in the second and third innings. Georgia notched four runs in
the ninth.
Mailon Kent and Gabe Gross each hit home runs for the Tigers. Kent
hit a solo shot, his fifth of the season, in the third, and Gross followed
with a his eighth home run of the season with a two-run shot to
right-centerfield in the fourth.
Gross finished the night 4-for-4 with four runs and six RBI, while
Kent was 4-for-6 with four runs and two RBI. Todd Faulkner added three hits
and Dominic Rich added a pair.
Dating back to last Sunday's 21-11 win at Arkansas, the Tigers
scored 39 runs and had 38 hits in the two contests, scoring in 12 straight
innings.
Chris Bootcheck (5-0) picked up the win for the Tigers. The junior
right hander pitched a season-high eight innings, allowing eight hits, two
runs, one earned run, with seven strikeouts.
Matt Steele (4-1) was credited with his first loss of the season for
the Bulldogs. Steele went 1.1 innings, allowing eight hits and nine runs.
The Tigers and Bulldogs will play the second game of the three-game
