OXFORD, Miss.- Ole Miss scored four runs in the first inning and
Rebel starter Joey Cramblitt held Auburn scoreless through 6.2 innings
en route to a 7-2 victory over the Tigers today at Swayze Field. Ole
Miss improved to 21-14 overall and 7-7 in the SEC, while Auburn fell to
30-10 and 8-7 in conference play.
Ole Miss opened the first inning with four runs, behind a
two-run double by Burney Hutchinson and a two-run home run by Jude
Voltz. Auburn starter Kevin Knorst lasted just three batters, leaving
the game following Hutchinson's double. Voltz' homer came off Tiger
reliever Colter Bean.
The Rebels added a run in the second on Clint Farrar's first
home run of the season, and Lance Jones added a solo shot in the sixth.
Auburn managed two runs in the eighth after Dominic Rich singled
to lead off the inning and Mailon Kent followed with a double to right
center. Rich scored on a ground out to first base by Gabe Gross. Kent
scored when Todd Faulkner doubled to right center field.
Ole Miss added an insurance run in the eighth inning on a Jones
single, scoring pinch runner Matt Mossberg from second base.
Cramblitt (4-5) was credited with the win, snapping a personal
five-game losing streak. Picking up his first career win, Cramblitt
allowed four hit and no runs. Knorst (2-1) picked up his first loss of
the season for Auburn, going just three batters, allowing two hits and
three runs.
Dominic Rich led the Auburn offensive output with a 3-for-4
performance, while Mailon Kent extended his hitting streak to a
career-best 16 games.
Auburn will host Samford on Tuesday at Plainsman Park in Auburn
beginning at 6 p.m. CT. The Tigers return to SEC play next weekend at
Tennessee, April 14-16, in Knoxville.
